The Arvert Peninsula, La Palmyre and Etaules

Etaules is in the centre of our peninsula. The main villages of Les Mathes, Arvert, La Tremblade, Breuillet  and Etaules are typical French villages which are inhabited all the year round. You can find  restaurants serving local dishes, small markets, local shops and in Arvert and La Tremblade supermarkets which are open all the year round. The economy is rural with farming and oyster farming being important.

La Palmyre and other coastal towns are summer towns which are generally open from Easter until late October. They offer superb family orientated holidays. Great beaches, safe swimming areas, lots of activities such as sailing, surfing, horse riding, tennis, cycling, karting, walking, tree adventure parcs and of course throughout the season daily events such as music events, various competitions, guided visits, theme parks, children's’ play parks and many other events.  The beaches are fabulous, mile after mile of sandy beaches offering everything from flat calm water to good surfing beaches.

Throughout the area there are hundreds of restaurants catering for all tastes, although many specialise in local seafood delicacies.

Our houses in La Palmyre are very conveniently situated to allow you to park your car and forget about  it for the duration of your holiday, the beaches are only 600 metres away , there are lots of restaurants within walking distance, two supermarkets,  plenty of souvenir shops and even newsagents selling English language newspapers and magazines.

The house in Etaules is right at the edge of the village  and is up a small road off  a fairly quiet main road. It is nice and peaceful, although do be aware it is not “touristy” the neighbours will all be French and will do the things that people do, barbecues in summer, work in their gardens and even come over for a chat.

There is a fabulous zoo in La Palmyre with over 1600 animals. It is the largest zoo in Europe and well worth a visit. There is  a racecourse with frequent meetings in summer for both flat and jump racing and also trotting. It is worth noting that the three most successful jump trainers in Europe are based here.

The whole peninsula is crisscrossed by miles of pathways through the marshes which have a fabulous wildlife population, pretty scenery and total tranquillity. You can feel free to cycle for mile after mile on these traffic free tracks.

Golden beaches and green forests — a perfect combination for a relaxing holiday.
